The Cincinnati Rollergirls' Black Sheep will make their first trip to Milwaukee on June 2 and 3, 2012 for Midwest Brewhaha, a tournament that holds major implications for the regional playoffs.
Including Cincinnati, nine of the top 10 teams in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association's North Central Region will be playing at Brewhaha this weekend, looking to solidify or improve their standings before WFTDA sends out invites to the playoffs.
The #9 Black Sheep (3-3) will take on two higher-ranked opponents this weekend: The #5 Chicago Outfit (3-2) at 2:15 p.m. Central Time/3:15 p.m. Eastern Time Saturday, June 2, and the #8 Arch Rival Roller Girls (4-1) at 1:30 p.m. Central Time/2:30 p.m. Eastern Time Sunday, June 3.
The Sheep defeated the Outfit the last time the two teams met in 2010, 141-86, and it looks to be a good matchup this weekend: Both teams defeated the Grand Raggidy Roller Girls earlier this season by similar margins (Cincinnati by 24 points and the Outfit by 26). Arch Rival beat the Sheep by 40 points at CRG's home opener on March 10 but have since slipped in the rankings themselves, from 6th to 8th.
The Black Sheep are bringing 16 skaters to Brewhaha this weekend; the game day rosters of 14 skaters have not yet been announced. But two skaters from CRG's B team, the Violent Lambs, could make their first appearances on the Sheep this weekend: Hot Slice, the small but speedy starting jammer for the Lambs, and hard-hitting blocker RailRoad.
This weekend's games will help determine WFTDA's second quarter rankings, likely to be announced sometime in July, and seeding for the regional playoffs this fall. The top 10 teams from each region receive invites to the playoffs.
