According to the Cincinnati Business Courier, the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority plans to purchase, demolish and redevelop the historic Cincinnati Gardens, the Cincinnati Rollergirls’ home since 2007, for a high-tech manufacturing site. Read a statement from the team.
“Although the Gardens has been for sale for three years and we knew this day might come, that doesn’t make it any less heartbreaking. For 10 seasons, we’ve entertained thousands of the best fans in roller derby in what is widely regarded as one of the best venues in roller derby. We’ve never taken for granted how fortunate we’ve been to play at the Gardens, where hundreds of the world’s biggest entertainers, celebrities and athletes have appeared in its 67-year history — including the Beatles, Elvis, Madonna, Michael Jackson and the stars of banked-track roller derby before us. The Gardens and its staff have been like part of our family for the past decade. There will never be another venue like it.
“Even though this may be the end of the Gardens, this is not the end of the Cincinnati Rollergirls. Wheels are already in motion to find a new practice space and a new venue. Practice Space Requirements
LOCATION: We’re looking inside of the 275 loop, preferably the Ohio side.
SIZE: Approx. 8,000-12,000 (or more) square feet of clear span space. (A full roller derby track requires a 108’x75’ area.) We can potentially work around support structures if necessary – we’ll just need to know many feet there are between them.
FLOOR: Smooth and flat. Ideal floors are polished concrete or hardwood.
AMENITIES: The team requires power, lighting and access to restroom facilities. Heat/AC are ideal but not required.
PRIVACY: We require dedicated space that we do not have to share, with 24/7 access to the practice space.
Venue Requirements
Same as above, ideally with seating for a minimum of 1,000 fans.
