The Cincinnati Rollergirls’ C team, the Flock Ewes, will open the first home game of Cincinnati’s men’s roller derby team, the Battering Rams, on Saturday, February 23 at Sports Plus Cincinnati.
The Flock Ewes and the Black-n-Bluegrass Rollergirls’ Shiners will take to the track at 6 p.m. in the undercard game of the double-header. At about 8 p.m., the Battering Rams will battle the Milwaukee Blitzdkrieg.
Since the Cincinnati Rollergirls’ home opener isn’t until March 23 at the Cincinnati Gardens, this double-header will give derby-hungry fans a chance to see a mix of see up-and-coming CRG skaters and familiar faces as well as witness the first-ever men’s roller derby bout in Cincinnati. The Flock Ewes roster features a few veterans, several skaters who joined the team in 2012 and two making their roster debuts: Truxtal and La Bruja.
The Cincinnati Battering Rams were formed in July 2011 by Cincinnati Rollergirls coach Quad Almighty and by Mark Weber, former star of TV’s “RollerJam,” who will be skating under the moniker “Tink.” This bout marks Weber’s flat-track debut, playing live roller derby for the first time in front of his hometown crowd.
