The Cincinnati Rollergirls have come a long way since their first exhibition bout at Castle Skateland in August of 2006. 2016 marks the team’s 10th anniversary, and the team is marking the milestone with a brand-new logo.

Over-the-Rhine design studio Paperplane Creative designed the new look with input from members of the Cincinnati Rollergirls. The new logo features a stylized crown and custom typeface that create a unique identity for the team. The branding retains the team’s black, white and silver color scheme but uses gold as an accent color for this season.
The Cincinnati Rollergirls wanted to update their brand to reflect the team’s evolution from a intraleague team in its first season — when it was more of a spectacle featuring skaters wearing short skirts and fishnets — to a highly competitive and internationally-ranked member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association.
“This new look better represents who we are today — strong, powerful, athletic women who proudly call the Queen City home,” said Lauren Bishop, the principal owner of the Cincinnati Rollergirls and a founding member of the team.
“We discussed rebranding several times over the past 10 years, but it was a challenge to rein in lots of different ideas, get total team buy-in and commit to moving forward with such a big change,” Bishop added. “Paperplane brought a much-needed outside perspective to the rebranding process, and we’re thrilled with the result.”
Paperplane offered its services pro bono to the team, whose skaters and support staff are all volunteers. A website redesign is coming soon.
