Cincinnati Junior Rollergirls Fall Season
Sep 12 2011 - 6:30pm - Dec 12 2011 - 8:00pm
Know an 8- to 17-year-old girl who wants to play roller derby? Now's her chance! The Cincinnati Junior Rollergirls will begin regular practices on Monday, Sept. 12 at The Skatin' Place, 3211 Lina Place, Cincinnati, OH 45239. Fall season practices will be held weekly through Monday, Dec. 12 and a winter season will begin after the holidays.
Practices will be led by Coach Kathy Kissing (a.k.a. Panterrorize), a retired Cincinnati Rollergirl and former national champion speed skater. She will be assisted by other current and former Cincinnati Rollergirls. The fall season will include working on skill requirements established by the Junior Roller Derby Association, games and scrimmages encouraging positional blocking (no hitting).
There will also be two optional preseason practices for parents to pick up registration packets and ask questions and for the girls to warm up and get ready for the fall season. These practices will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19 and Friday, Sept. 2 at the Skatin' Place. These practices will cost $10 and will include admission to an optional 8-11 p.m. open skate.
Just like their adult counterparts, junior rollergirls will become athletic and fit, learn teamwork and leadership, find new self-confidence and form lasting friendships while playing the fastest-growing women's sport in the U.S. The junior team may also have opportunities to skate during halftime of 2012 Cincinnati Rollergirls games at the Cincinnati Gardens!
