Junior Roller Derby Camp

Jul 12 2011 - 5:00pm - Jul 15 2011 - 6:30pm

The Cincinnati Rollergirls are pleased to announce that they will hold their first-ever Introduction to Roller Derby Camp for girls ages 8-17 from July 12-15, 2011 at The Skatin' Place!

Introduction to Roller Derby Camp will be led by retired Cincinnati Rollergirl Kathy Kissing (a.k.a. Panterrorize), who skated her first roller speed skating meet in 1971, holds 10 national speed skating titles and has two daughters of her own (pictured) who will be attending the camp.

During the camp, skaters will learn the basic skills and rules of flat track roller derby from current and former Cincinnati Rollergirls. Blocking will be positional only (no hitting). Some skating experience is helpful, but not required. This camp is for all skating levels, from beginner to advanced, and girls of all shapes, sizes and backgrounds are encouraged to attend.

This fall, the Cincinnati Rollergirls plan to form a junior roller derby team, following the guidelines of the Junior Roller Derby Association. Just like their adult counterparts, junior rollergirls will become athletic and fit, learn teamwork and leadership, find new self-confidence and form lasting friendships while playing the fastest-growing women's sport in the U.S. The junior team may also have opportunities to skate during halftime of Cincinnati Rollergirls games at the Cincinnati Gardens!
