Jan 15 2012 - 2:30pm - 3:30pm

We are holding a volunteer orientation meeting on Sunday, January 15 at 2:30 PM at the Cincinnati Gardens so people can find out more about being a volunteer with the league and what kind of roles are available (referee, non-skating official, game-day production). Anyone interested in being involved this year is encouraged to attend this meeting to get to know some of the people who are already involved, other new volunteers, and to get answers to any questions.

When you arrive at the Gardens, come in through the skating center (to the right of the main entrance if you are facing the building), there will be signs to direct you to the room.

For more information, see this article about volunteering with the Cincinnati Rollergirls or contact us at volunteer@cincinnatirollergirls.com.

Jan 8 2012 - 10:00am - 12:00pm

The Cincinnati Rollergirls' 2011 season tryouts have been scheduled for Sunday, January 8 at 9 a.m. at The Skatin' Place! The address is 3211 Lina Place, Cincinnati, OH 45239-4122. Please arrive between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. to get geared up and fill out a few forms.

You must be at least 18 years of age and female in order to try out. The skills you will be tested on are listed here.

We expect a big turnout at this upcoming tryout, so if you don't have your own gear, arrive early: Gear will be available to borrow on a first-come, first-served basis. If you don't have skates, you can borrow a pair free of charge (thank you, Skatin' Place!). There will also be no fee to attend this tryout.

The required gear for tryouts includes helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and a mouth guard.
Mouth guards can be purchased at any sporting goods or discount department store, like Target, for about $1. Make sure you read the directions on the back of the package because some of the mouth guards require molding in order to fit properly.

You can wear anything that you would be comfortable working out in, but keep in mind that you will be strapping knee pads over your pants. Also, please bring a water bottle, and be sure to eat a good breakfast before you come. We are going to be working hard and you will need the energy.

We will not offer any more boot camps before these tryouts, but the Skatin' Place offers a class for adults from 8-10 p.m. Mondays that teaches basic skating skills and some derby skills. This class is not affiliated with the Cincinnati Rollergirls and is open to both men and women. The cost is $5 per class. For more information, call the Skatin' Place at 513-522-2424.

Questions? Email recruiting@cincinnatirollergirls.com. Good luck, and we look forward to seeing you there!

The boot camp is $5 and skate rental is free if you do not have your own skates. We have a limited amount of gear to lend, so please bring your own if you have it. Required gear includes helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, knee pads and a mouthguard. Mouthguards can be purchased at any sporting goods or discount department store, such as Target, for about $1. Make sure you read the directions on the back of the package because many mouthguards require molding in order to fit properly.
