Rollergirls: Skating A Dream

CINCINNATI -- Do you ever feel like you're in a little bit of a rut and you'd like to break out if and be somebody else?

See what it's like to be a Cincinnati rollergirl and find out why so many fans are re-discovering roller derby.

As a trauma nurse at University Hospital, Jennifer Adkins helps save lives. But at the end of a routine day, she straps on a whole different personality, and prepares to "inflict" trauma.

"I don't really get into the showiness of it, but I do laugh sometimes when I knock people down," said Adkins.

"You can be somebody completely different once you put your skates on and lace up," said Mercedes Stafford, AKA Sadistic Sadie. "You can skate around and beat other chics up, so that's pretty cool."

Sadie is a jammer who scores the points.

"I Look a little sweet, Sadie said. "But then what happens is, my play is very aggressive."

You can't help but feel the energy at a Thursday night practice, even during my little "roller tour" with Sadie, before things really sped up.
