CRG Qualifies For Playoffs

The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) announced Aug. 3 that the Cincinnati Rollergirls earned a spot in the 2011 WFTDA North Central Region Playoffs.

The top 10 teams in the WFTDA North Central Region will head to Indianapolis, Indiana, Oct. 7-9, to compete for one of three spots in the 2011 WFTDA Championships. The WFTDA North Central Region includes 28 teams based in the midwestern United States and portions of Canada.
This will mark the fourth straight year that the Cincinnati Rollergirls have attended regional playoffs. In 2009 and 2010, the team finished fourth in the North Central Playoffs, just one spot away from earning a trip to the Championships.
The 2011 North Central Region Playoffs, nicknamed “Monumental Mayhem” this year, are expected to attract thousands of roller derby players and fans to watch some of the best action the sport has to offer. Fans who want to cheer on the Cincinnati Rollergirls can find ticketing and other information at http://monumentalmayhem.com.
To make it to the Playoffs, the Cincinnati Rollergirls first had to earn a top 10 ranking within the North Central Region. WFTDA members vote on rankings quarterly, based on the results of a team’s games against other WFTDA teams. Second quarter rankings are used to determine tournament eligibility. As the No. 5-seeded team in the tournament, Cincinnati will first play the No. 4 seed, Indianapolis’s Naptown Roller Girls, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, and will play at least three games over the course of the three-day, multi-level tournament. Here are the seedings for the North Central Region Playoffs:
1. Windy City Rollers (Chicago, IL)
2. Detroit Derby Girls (Detroit, MI)
3. Minnesota RollerGirls (St. Paul, MN)
4. Naptown Roller Girls (Indianapolis, IN)
5. Cincinnati Rollergirls
6. Mad Rollin’ Dolls (Madison, WI)
7. Brewcity Bruisers (Milwaukee, WI)
8. Arch Rival Rollergirls (St. Louis, MO)
9. Chicago Outfit (Chicago, IL)

The top three finishers at each of the four WFTDA playoff tournaments will advance to compete for the championship title. Consolation brackets for teams that don’t advance in the Playoffs will help determine future rankings within the North Central Region.
