This Saturday, June 9, the Cincinnati Rollergirls wrap up their home season at the Cincinnati Gardens with a very special doubleheader when they host the Little Steel Derby Girls from Youngstown, Ohio and the Black-n-Bluegrass Rollergirls from Northern Kentucky. The main event between the CRG Black Sheep and the BBRG Blackouts will be the first-ever Crosstown Knockdown.

In the spirit of other local sports rivalries, the inaugural Crosstown Knockdown will pit the two WFTDA teams in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area against each other for the first time. These teams know each other well, as both teams have members that once skated for what is now their opposition. This familiarity sets the stage for what could be a battle.
The Blackouts have a 2-1 record this year and are not yet ranked in the WFTDA North Central region, as they just attained full WFTDA status in March of this year. The Black-n-Bluegrass Rollergirls kicked off their home season opener with a bang a few weeks ago at the Bank of Kentucky Center when the Blackouts stomped the Southern Illinois Roller Girls 411 to 10. Several experienced jammers give the Blackouts good depth and flexibility, and the team has hard hitting blockers including Red Emma and Shaneeda Spankin. With that momentum and talent, they hope to come away with a win in this first A-team match-up against CRG’s Black Sheep.
The Black Sheep (NC #9) are 4-4 and would like to tip the scales to the win side with a victory in their final home bout of 2012. Last weekend, they skated in two bouts at Midwest Brewhaha where they beat the Chicago Outfit (NC #5) by 17 and lost to Arch Rival (NC #8) by 127. Back in March, the Black Sheep bested Demolition City who, just a couple weeks before that, beat the BBRG Blackouts. The seasoned Black Sheep are well prepared for a physical and strategic test from the Blackouts.
In the first bout before the Knockdown, the Little Steel Derby Girls’ Lawless Rollers will face the CRG Violent Lambs. The Lawless Rollers have a 0-2 record this year, having lost to the Steel City B-Unit in March and recently in their home opener against the Lansing Derby Vixens. It promises to be a tough night for them against the Violent Lambs who have earned a 5-1 record this year; their only loss coming against the Arch Rival St. Lunachix with a 6 point differential. It’ll be hard to deal with the Violent Lambs’ strong blockers such as Railroad and NailHer while trying to contain a speedy set of jammers.
Saturday’s double-header is also CRG’s annual Fan Appreciation Night, with giveaways for all fans while supplies last and a special giveaway for the first 300 fans in the door.
