Game Preview: CRG vs. Athens Ohio Roller Derby on August 23

Join the Cincinnati Rollergirls as we take on Athens Ohio Roller Derby in our fourth home game of the 2025 season. Our new, derby-centric warehouse in Northside, The Apex, is still a work in progress—but no need to bring your own seats, we have seats for everyone. Though, as usual, we also love it when our fans 18 and older sit on the floor trackside.
This doubleheader has our A Team, CRG Black Sheep, taking on Athens’ Appalachian Hell Betties at 5 p.m.; doors open at 4 p.m. The second game will feature our B Team, CRG Violent Lambs, vs. Athens’ Black Diamond Betties.
THE TEAMS
Cincinnati Black Sheep players to watch will be the jammers—the fearless point scorers—Whitlash, Star Flatten’em, and Gore-gon. For Athens, players to watch include veteran skaters Kitty Liquorbottom and Sweet N. Lowdown, proudly in her 20th year on the track.
For Cincinnati Violent Lambs, our jammers will be the triple threat of Andee WarDoll, Chelsea Dragger, and CleoPAINtra.

MEET THE CAPTAINS: Whitlash and Fitzkrieg
Our team members vote on captains for each game; it is an honor to be given this respect from your peers.
Team captain for the Black Sheep is incredibly successful jammer Whitlash, who brings both an evenness and a fierceness to each bout that is impressive to see. Asked what she was most proud of right now about the team, she said, “Everyone’s patience and dedication through all of the changes we’ve had this season.”
Asked who or what one thing should the fans look out for, she said, “Fans should pay attention to all the cool things the blockers are doing to help their jammer have success!”
Team captain for the Violent Lambs is star blocker Fitzkrieg, whose warmth and strength shine through in every game she plays. Asked what she was most proud of right now about the team, she said, “I’m really proud to have a B team this year. A lot of people have worked hard to make that happen.”
Asked who or what one thing the fans should look out for, she said, “Keep an eye out for the teamwork and perseverance of our B team. We’ve worked hard to build it and I think we’re going to hit our stride this game. And also our fearless jammers who take crazy hits and still get up and go back out there with a ton of energy.”
CRG is also excited to partner with Crayons to Computers for this bout. Crayons to Computers is an amazing nonprofit that teachers throughout Cincinnati rely on. CRG itself has several educators in its ranks. This includes Pain Austen, who said, “Two groups that are very near and dear to my heart! I visit Crayons to Computers multiple times throughout the year to ensure my kiddos have what they need to focus on their learning. This includes everything like classroom furniture, backpacks, and snacks. I’m so grateful for the support of this great organization.”
Our goal is to collect 1,000 items for our school supplies drive!
Did you know that 94 percent of teachers routinely spend more than $500 out of their own pockets every year to provide tools for their classrooms? And that 1 of out every 5 children in the Greater Cincinnati area is living in poverty? These families cannot afford school supplies.

GAME DAY DETAILS
What: Cincinnati Rollergirls A & B teams, vs. Athens Roller Derby A & B teams
When: Saturday, Aug. 23. Doors open at 4 p.m. The A-team game starts at 5 p.m. and the B-team game starts at approximately 7 p.m.
Where: The Apex, 1641 Blue Rock St., Cincinnati, OH 45223 in Northside.
Tickets: Sold out.
Parking: Available on the street or in nearby pay lots. The venue is ADA-accessible. More details here.
