Two teams from WFTDA’s South Central Region – No. 8 Tampa Bay and the No. 12 Hard Knox Roller Girls of Knoxville, TN – will roll north to take on Cincinnati on April 21, 2012, Cincinnati’s third annual Kids/Scout Night, at the Cincinnati Gardens.

Saturday marks Tampa’s first trip to Cincinnati, although it’s not the first time the teams have faced off. The Black Sheep silenced the Tampa Tantrums during the 2010 Franky Panky Tournament in Tampa, 141-74, and went on to sweep the entire tournament.
Both the Sheep and the Tantrums now sit in the No. 8 spot in their respective regions, and both currently have 2-1 records. And both want to better their standings. Tampa – whose roster features Team USA member Little A – is taking on three different teams this weekend in the hopes of doing just that: The Naptown Roller Girls (No. 3 in North Central) on Friday night in Indianapolis; Cincinnati on Saturday night at the Gardens; and the Nashville Rollergirls (No. 3 in South Central) in a closed game in Cincinnati on Sunday. (Update: Naptown defeated Tampa Friday night, 149-126.)
In the opening 40-minute game, the Violent Lambs will take on a Hard Knox roster made up of a mix of A and B team skaters. It’s been three years since Cincinnati and Hard Knox played, but history favors the Queen City skaters: In March 2009, the Lambs beat Hard Knox’s Brawlers, 93-35, and the Sheep beat Hard Knox’s All-Stars, 177-38.
Cincinnati fans will see some roster changes Saturday night. With Black Sheep blocker Nuk’em likely out for the rest of the home season after breaking her tibia and fibula, Cherry Choke moves up to the Sheep for this game, and Sissy Bug, who previously skated for the Rollergirls of Central Kentucky, makes her first appearance on the Lambs. Also Saturday, fan favorite The Librarian marks her return to the Lambs after maternity leave.
For Kids/Scout Night, Cincinnati will hold a pre-game roller derby demo and meet and greet at 4:30 p.m. in the Cincinnati Gardens’ annex. Scouts will also receive special commemorative patches, and all kids will receive temporary tattoos. For more details, click here.
