Cincinnati Rollergirls announcer Caesar previews the last Cincinnati Rollergirls’ home double-header of the 2010 season, which could be the most exciting yet. After CRG’s Silent Lambs battle Demolition City Roller Derby of Evansville, IN, the Black Sheep will face Milwaukee’s Brewcity Bruisers for the first time.
#4 CINCINNATI BLACK SHEEP (7-1) VS. #5 BREWCITY BRUISERS (4-0) (WFTDA North Central Region rankings)
Another regionally and internationally-ranked opponent comes to town on Saturday for the Cincinnati Rollergirls’ last home game of the 2010 season. This time, it’s the undefeated Brewcity Bruisers from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Bruisers are ranked 5th regionally in the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association, and Derby News Network places them at #25 in the world rankings. The Cincinnati Black Sheep are ranked 4th regionally and 19th internationally. Brewcity will be the fifth opponent the Black Sheep have faced that is in DNN’s top 25, and the 4th-ranked North Central region opponent. This will be the first meeting between Cincinnati and Milwaukee on the flat track.
In recent action, the Bruisers smashed Tampa Bay and Burning River (Cleveland) in May, and also dominated Arch Rival (St. Louis) by 102 points back in February, a team that the Sheep beat by just 66 points. Their roster has enjoyed considerable stability for the past two years, much like the Black Sheep, and that usually translates to excellent teamwork, communication, and execution of strategy.
Milwaukee’s weapons include speedy jammers Skittle and Carrie A. Hacksaw. Hacksaw in particular is a veteran player—formerly of Madison’s Dairyland Dolls—who is quite capable of putting up 20- point jams on packs that are caught off-guard. The Sheep will have to be very wary of the penalty box situation at all times lest they end up getting cut like a rusty old pipe by the great Hacksaw. As for blockers, Milwaukee’s Servin’ Justice and Anna Krajcik are heavy hitters and smart players.
Many people expect Brewcity to pull a few upsets this year and possibly challenge for a spot in the WFTDA championships, but they have yet to prove themselves against an opponent ranked higher than them this season. Their Saturday match against the Black Sheep will be their toughest test of the year so far. On the other hand, the Black Sheep have consistently played beyond expectations this season; close games have been predicted, and the Sheep failed to deliver, dominating most of their opponents handily. However, this truly does appear to be one of the toughest tests all season to date. The Black Sheep offense appears to be good to go with K Lethal and Hannah Ouchocinco, but the defense will have to step it up in this game to contain the strong Brewcity jammers.
Regardless of the outcome of this Saturday’s game, it’s very likely to be a preview of regional tournament action to happen later this year. In fact, Brewcity is hosting the 2010 WFTDA North Central regional tournament in Green Bay, and if current rankings reflect future tournament seeds, Cincinnati may have to face Milwaukee in the early round of that tournament in front of a hostile crowd.
This is your last chance of the year to enjoy a beautiful early summer day while tailgating at the Gardens. Your teams will need support for this last game at home, so come help send the Cincinnati Rollergirls on the road and into tournament season with a big win in front of a big crowd.

CINCINNATI SILENT LAMBS (4-1) VS. DEMOLITION CITY (5-0)
The Silent Lambs were able to extend their winning record to 4-1 by defeating Gem City at the Gardens on May 29, and they look to move to 5-1 on June 19 as they face Demolition City Roller Derby’s Dynamite Dolls in their last 2010 game at the Gardens.
Demolition City is coming off a 138-124 victory over Memphis’ Women of Mass Destruction in late April. Prior to that, they defeated the St. Louis St. Lunachix and Nashville’s B-team. Demolition City is averaging 133.8 points/game; the Silent Lambs average 124.6 points/game. The Lambs, however, are only giving up an average of 54.6 points/game, while the Demolition City defense allows 76 points/game. Judging by these numbers, Demolition City has a speedy offense that isn’t used to facing the kind of defense Cincinnati likes to play. But Cincinnati is not used to facing such a high-powered offense, either. This should make for a close and exciting game, and by no means will it be easy for Lambs to dominate the way they have been used to at home this season.
Godjilla is an offensive powerhouse for Demolition City; she routinely accounts for a majority of her team’s scoring, and she’ll be joined as a jammer by teammates Lilith of the Valley and Bangs McCoy. Shelby N. Pain is a feared blocker and 2009 MVP for Demolition City; she will be joined in the pack by the likes of Mary N. Malice and Macabrera, who will have the tough job of trying to contain the Cincinnati jammers.
Iona Pare and Evil Quenevil will make their season debut in this game, and rookie GiGi Go-Glitter is back on the roster as well. The rest of the Lambs make up a talented squad the likes of which Demolition City has not faced this year, and the strength of the home defense could surprise the visitors quite a bit.
Still, this will be a tough outing for the home team as the face a dangerous and determined opponent in Demolition City. The veteran leadership and superior training of the Lambs should be enough to allow victory in a close game. If Demolition City can force the Lambs to play as individuals and bust up walls, then the Evansville jammers may have enough to secure an upset. Regardless of which team you root for, it’s sure to be a close and exciting game.
