Cincinnati Rollergirls Announce New Venue for 2025 Season
The Apex will provide a new home for roller derby in the tri-state.
The Cincinnati Rollergirls are hitting the track for their 19th season in a brand new space, located right in the heart of Northside.
The new venue at 1641 Blue Rock St., called The Apex, will host several teams from around the region, including Northern Kentucky’s Black-n-Bluegrass Roller Derby as well as Cincinnati Junior Roller Derby.
All three teams, alongside Northside-based Grey Rock Development, have been collaborating through the winter to ensure the space will be the perfect home for roller derby. The teams will use the venue for both private practices and public games, initially accommodating hundreds of spectators. The collaborative is also working on future plans for a variety of skate-based programming and events in the space.
Gabrielle Larkin, Cincinnati Rollergirls skater and a representative for The Apex, said, “A dedicated space for roller derby has been a dream of the community for a long time now. We are so grateful to Sarah and Chris of Grey Rock for all of their hard work and collaboration to make this dream a reality. Northside is the perfect neighborhood for roller derby to find a home in Cincinnati and we can’t wait to see everyone around the track!”
Sarah Thomas, co-owner of Grey Rock, said, “We are thrilled to welcome The Apex to Northside! The shared team use and skate-based programs are sure to be a great addition to our neighborhood business district. We’re grateful for the teams’ collaboration and look forward to seeing this new business shine in our community.”
CRG was originally scheduled to hold its 2025 season at its previous location, Queen City Sportsplex in Evendale, but had to find another home due to building renovations. After the owners of the Apex put some finishing touches on the track, CRG will hold three home games in the spring on May 10, June 7, and June 14. The team is planning to add more home games to their schedule this fall as well as away games. Opponents and more details will be announced soon.
The Apex and CRG are also requesting donations of various items to help get the space up and running more quickly. These include things such as seating for spectators, such as metal folding chairs (300 needed) or bleacher-style seating; gently used skates and gear (helmets, elbow/knee pads, and wrist guards) for new skaters; and portable bathrooms. Whether you are interested in providing a one-time donation or beginning a sponsorship with CRG, please reach out to [email protected].
