CRG’s Black Sheep made a statement in their first sanctioned game of the 2020 season with an upset win over West Virginia Roller Derby in a closed matchup.
Heading into the Feb. 16 game at CRG’s practice space, West Virginia was ranked 71st in the WFTDA international rankings and CRG was ranked 81st. But CRG dominated the entire matchup thanks to strong, cohesive packs and a talented jammer rotation, leading 139-40 at halftime and eventually taking the win, 229-89.
Top scorers for the Black Sheep were veteran CRG skater Nuk’em with 94 points, followed by Gem City (Dayton) transfer Reckless Ratchet (pictured) with 68 points and Race City (Indianapolis) transfer Punky with 59 points. Top scorers for West Virginia were T. Cooke with 38 points and Towanda Woman with 26 points. To view more photos from the game, click here.
The victory helped CRG jump 13 points to 68th out of 366 teams worldwide in the February 2020 WFTDA rankings. The Black Sheep were scheduled to play their first public sanctioned game of the season against Appalachian Roller Derby on March 21 at the Cintas Center at Xavier University, but the game was canceled due to government orders issued to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
