On their third annual Hometown Heroes Night on Saturday, May 19 at the Cincinnati Gardens, the Cincinnati Rollergirls will take on an opponent from the nation’s capital for the first time: The DC Rollergirls.
The DC Rollergirls capped off their very busy intra-league season with their final bouts last weekend at home, and now their two inter-league teams, the DC All Stars and the DC Capitol Offenders, make their first trip to Cincinnati.
The DC All Stars are 6-3 in 2012. Their most recent outing was on April 28, when they faced their East Region rival Suburbia Roller Derby. The All Stars made up for their 8-point loss to Suburbia in 2011 by beating them 247-147. Currently ranked 10th in the East, the DC All Stars are looking to extend their winning streak to solidify their case for an invitation to the East Region playoffs this fall.
The DC All Stars will be skating against the Black Sheep, currently #9 in the North Central Region with a 3-2 record this season. Two weeks ago, the Black Sheep were handed a loss by the Minnesota RollerGirls (#2NC). The Black Sheep will be working hard for a victory to help ensure their spot in the North Central playoffs. They’ll be keeping a close eye on DC jammers Dual Hitizen and Jersey Jill, who have been doing the bulk of the DC All Stars’ scoring work.
In the first game of the evening, the DC Capitol Offenders will battle Cincinnati’s Violent Lambs. The Capitol Offenders have had only one bout so far in 2012, in which they beating the Skate Troopers of NOVA Roller Derby (Northern Virginia) 381 to 51. The Capitol Offenders will face some tough competition against the Lambs, who have a record of 4-1. The Lambs have shown a lot of depth in their jammer rotation and have many experienced blockers that will keep the Capitol Offenders busy.
On Hometown Heroes Night, members of all branches of the military, VFWs, law enforcement, fire departments and first-responders will receive $8 general admission tickets at the door with ID, a savings of $4. CRG is also partnering with the Yellow Ribbon Support Center to collect supplies for men and women serving overseas.
