Game Preview: CRG vs. Akron Roller Derby Doubleheader on May 10

Our first public event at our new venue, The Apex, is already SOLD OUT!

Join the Cincinnati Rollergirls as we take on Akron Roller Derby in our first, spectacular game of our 2025 home season, and the first in our new, spectacular venue in Northside, The Apex. Tickets are sold out for the May 10 bout, but keep an eye out here for tickets to our next home games on June 7 and June 14. And a huge thank you to you, our amazing and loyal fans, for selling out our events and for making us, once again (this time along with the Florence Y’alls), CityBeat’s 2025 “Best Team (Amateur/Semi-Pro/Minor).”

We are thrilled to show off our new hard-won skills, our fierce new teammates, and our new venue. This game will be a doubleheader that has our A Team, CRG Black Sheep, taking on Akron’s best, the Akron Roller Derby All Stars, at 5 p.m.; the B teams will skate directly after, CRG’s Violent Lambs vs Akron’s Rowdies.

THE TEAMS

This battle will feature a doubleheader: CRG’s A team, the Black Sheep, taking on Akron Roller Derby’s All Stars at 5 p.m.; and CRG’s B team, the Violent Lambs, taking on Akron Roller Derby’s Rowdies directly after.

With a team almost double in size compared to last year, CRG will be extra hot to play and the action extra fast. Players to watch will be A team jammers Gore-gon, Star Flatten’em, and ROOthless; and A team blockers Ursa Maimer, Krystonite, and Harley Trinn. Each has won “Best Jammer” or “Best Blocker” honors in the past.

For those who care about rankings — and we do — we are currently ranked 63rd in North America Northeast, while Akron is ranked 38th in North America Northeast. You can find more relevant stats at the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) site here.

ESPECIALLY FOR YOU, THE FANS:

Our halftimes are always fun, and we are starting with crazy animal fun this time. Bring your kids and your whole selves for “Chuck a Duck,” which will take place at halftime of the first bout; and Kentucky Derby–Derby-Style!–Horse Races, where you pull a skater around the track for the win! You won’t want to miss a moment.

MEET OUR TEAM CAPTAINS

Captains get voted on separately for each game; it is an honor to be given this respect from your peers. Team captain for this bout for the Black Sheep is blocker Harley Trinn. Asked what they hoped for the team, they said: “My hope is that our communication and teamwork really shine in this bout. We’ve been working really hard on both aspects for the past couple weeks, so I hope we take the opportunity to display it.”

The team captain for the B Team is jammer Chelsea Dragger. Asked what she hoped for, she said: “Since it’s our first game together as this team, I’m wanting us to focus on staying calm and together while we’re learning to really mesh together. I want everyone to think about where the opposing jammer is at all times, and making it all the way to the line every single time.”

THE BOTTOM LINE

Thank you for making this a sold-out event!

Seating is extremely limited at The Apex, and with your help, we are still creating the space we want. For now, we need you to bring your own chair or seat cushion if you decide to sit trackside (trackside seating is for fans 18 and over only).

Parking in the neighborhood is plentiful: find out more details in our game day FAQ. The venue is ADA-accessible. We will have two food vendors on May 10: Foster’s Foodies food truck and Joyously Sweet desserts.

Follow CRG on Instagram and Facebook, and sign up for our email list to be the first to know everything about our next games and be the first to know when tickets become available.
