The Cincinnati Rollergirls will face a familiar opponent, the The Arch Rival Roller Girls of St. Louis, in CRG’s 2012 home season opener on Saturday, March 10 at the Cincinnati Gardens.
The teams last met in October during the regional playoffs in Indianapolis, where Arch Rival upset the then-higher ranked Cincinnati, 138-98, in a consolation bracket game. Cincinnati dropped to 8th in the region at the end of the quarter, while Arch Rival now holds the No. 6 spot.
But Cincinnati’s Black Sheep (1-0) are putting the playoffs performance behind them and aiming for a repeat of Arch Rival’s last trip to the Cincinnati Gardens in April 2010, when the Sheep trounced Arch Rival’s All-Stars, 134-68. A victory for Cincinnati at home Saturday over 1-0 Arch Rival could mean a North Central rankings shakeup; a loss would mean Cincinnati continues to fight for its spot in the top 10.
Saturday marks the second meeting between the cities’ B teams, Cincinnati’s Violent Lambs and Arch Rival’s St. Lunachix. The Lunachix came out on the winning end of that April 2010 game, 89-39.
And if the excitement of CRG’s seventh home season opener wasn’t enough, there’s a new addition to this year’s home games. Cincinnati’s new junior roller derby team for girls ages 8 to 17, the Cincinnati Junior Rollergirls, will make their public debut Saturday with a 15-minute exhibition scrimmage between the Lambs and Sheep games.

Cincinnati Rollergirls tickets are $10 for adult general admission seating, $15 for trackside seating (18 and older), $5 for kids 7-12 and free for kids 6 and younger in advance through the Cincinnati Gardens box office (open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday), at all Ticketmaster outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 800-745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices increase at the door to $12 for adult general admission seating, $17 for trackside seating and $7 for kids 7-12. Parking is free, tailgating is encouraged and beer is just $1 during happy hour. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the action starts at 7 p.m.
