Meet Pain Austen #711, our Skater of the Week! We’re so lucky to have someone as tough, smart and dedicated as Pain on our team. When she sets her mind to accomplish something, it always gets done. Plus, she’s a team player who makes everyone feel welcome on and off the track. She shared a little bit about her derby journey:

How long have you been playing Roller Derby?
It’s my 2nd year.”

What do you do for your day job? 
“I’m a teacher in Cincinnati Public Schools.”

What is your volunteer role within the team?
“HR director.”

What kind of skates do you roll on? 
“Antik Jet Carbons.”

What’s your favorite position to play?
“Blocker.”

What is one of your derby strengths?
“I have a growth mindset and always push myself to learn more and be a better skater.”

What made you want to play Roller Derby?
“I’ve loved skating my whole life, and spent most of my middle school years at the rink. I’ve always thought derby was was so cool, but was intimidated. A coworker, Lavender Menace, encouraged me to tryout!”

If you had to pick a “highlight” from your derby career so far, what would it be?
“Playing in my first bout.”

What do you do for fun off the track?
“Reading, camping, going to concerts, and spending time with my family.”

What would you say to someone who has thought about playing roller derby?
“Do it!!!!!! Our Nati Lite program will teach you everything you need to know. Also remember every one progresses at a different rate.”
